Concho River Trout Stocking Moved Up a Day Due to Winter Weather

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will stock rainbow trout into the Concho River in downtown San Angelo on Thursday, Jan. 22.

The fish will be stocked at the Oakes Street Lake, 396 S. Irving St.

The stocking is being moved up a day earlier than originally scheduled due to the winter weather that is expected to arrive in the Concho Valley on Friday.

Possible rain and snow are in Friday’s forecast, and Saturday’s temperature is projected to be a high of 25 degrees.

Rainbow trout can be caught using simple, light-tackle or hand-tied flies on a fly rod. However, anglers should keep an array of baits and lures nearby as well as ice to keep trout fresh. Rainbow trout are an attractive, tasty fish, and anglers can easily find recipes online.

TPWD plans to stock 335,048 rainbow trout at sites across Texas through March 6. Because rainbow trout are unable to survive in most areas of Texas after winter due to the warm water temperatures, anglers are encouraged to keep up to their daily bag limit of five trout.
