Super Bowl LX Set: New England vs. Seattle Part II

SANTA CLARA, CA — The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will meet on football’s biggest stage once again, renewing a Super Bowl rivalry that produced one of the most memorable finishes in NFL history.

The teams last met in the Super Bowl 11 years ago, when New England edged Seattle 28-24 in Super Bowl XLIX on a last-minute interception by Malcolm Butler at the goal line. Why not hand the ball off to Beast-Mode Marshawn Lynch at the one-yard line? Many NFL fans still scratch their heads at the decision to this day. Instead, Russel Wilson threw a slant, and Butler sealed the win for the Pats with a pick.

Seattle returns to the Super Bowl for the first time since that loss, completing a dramatic turnaround under head coach Mike Macdonald. The Seahawks went 14-3 in the regular season and defeated the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams in the NFC playoffs to earn the conference title.

Quarterback Sam Darnold leads Seattle in his first season with the team. The Seahawks are seeking their second Super Bowl championship after capturing their first title with a dominant win over Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII.

New England’s return to the Super Bowl marks another chapter in a franchise that continues to evolve following the end of the Tom Brady–Bill Belichick era. Brady is now in broadcasting, while Belichick has moved on to a college role. The Patriots are led by second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who has emerged as one of the league’s top players and is expected to finish near the top of MVP voting.

Former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel took over as head coach after a 4-13 season in 2024 and quickly restored a championship mindset. New England revamped its roster through free agency and the draft, finishing 14-3 and advancing through the AFC playoffs behind a balanced offense and an improved defense.

This will be the Patriots’ 12th Super Bowl appearance. They have won six championships, most recently during the Brady-Belichick dynasty.

Super Bowl LX will take place Sunday, Feb. 8, at Levi’s Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on NBC.
