CONROE, TX — The Angelo State softball team capped a perfect opening weekend with a 14-0, five-inning run-rule victory over Chadron State on Sunday afternoon at the Scrapyard Sports Complex.
The win pushed the Angelo State Rambelles to 5-0 on the season.
Angelo State struck immediately as Kylie Forney and Karli Manney executed a double steal to open the game, with Forney swiping home for the first run. Tatiana Trotter followed with an RBI double, and Abby Brand added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Freshman Zoey Sifuentes extended the lead with a two-run home run — the first of her collegiate career — later in the inning.
The Rambelles added two more runs in the second on an Ashleigh Dendas single and a Chadron State error to go up 7-0. RBI singles by Forney and Trotter in the third stretched the margin to 9-0.
Angelo State closed out the scoring with five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Sifuentes, a two-run single by Tannis Brewer, and a two-run triple from Trotter.
Addy Ewing earned her first win in a Rambelles uniform, tossing four shutout innings while allowing one hit and one walk and striking out four. Sara Paniagua worked the final inning, surrendering one hit and recording a strikeout.
The Chadron State Eagles were held scoreless as Angelo State completed the run-rule victory.
Angelo State opened the DII First Pitch Invitational last Friday with a 4-2 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State, then followed that up with four more victories: 10-2 against Simon Fraser, 5-0 against Mississippi College, 7-5 against Saint Martin's, and finally 14-0 against Chadron State.
The Rambelles will return home next weekend to host the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge.
