SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central standout linebacker Mason Van Sickle has committed to play football for the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa.
Van Sickle made the announcement Saturday on X.

I want to thank God, all of my coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way, and my family for all of their sacrifice and hard work helping me achieve this goal. Big thank you to @CoachSoftley and @UTPBCoachBook for blessing me with the opportunity to work hard and represent UTPB playing the game I love. Can't wait for what's next. Falcons Up.”
Van Sickle was the leader of the Bobcats’ defense with 138 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, five sacks, four forced fumbles and four pass breakups last season.
He was named the Defensive MVP of the San Angelo LIVE! All-Cover 1 Football Team.
It was the third straight year he posted 100 or more tackles, giving him a combined 371 stops since he broke into the starting lineup as a sophomore.
He also began this year ranked No. 8 academically in a class of more than 700 students, making him an ideal student-athlete.
Van Sickle helped lead Central to an 8-4 record and its first playoff win since 2020 this past fall.
He was offered by Fort Hays State, UT Permian Basin, Sterling, Wayland Baptist, Southwestern and McMurry before settling on UTPB.
