Dallas Cowboys Add Defensive Line Coach

ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Cowboys have continued building their coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball.

Former Cowboys player Marcus Dixon has been hired as the new defensive line coach, replacing Aaron Whitecotton, who recently joined the Tennessee Titans.

Dixon will join defensive coordinator Christian Parker, defensive backs and passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley, and cornerback coach Ryan Smith as the new hires.

Dixon was most recently with the Minnesota Vikings in the same capacity. Back in 2008, he was picked up as an undrafted rookie with the Cowboys and stuck around for two years as a defensive end. Dixon had a decent career as a player in the NFL, playing for Dallas, the New York Jets, Kansas City and Tennessee before playing in Canada for the BC Lions.

He coached at Hampton, his alma mater, then first coached in the NFL with the Rams in 2021 before moving to Denver, Minnesota and now Dallas. Dixon has a Super Bowl ring from his time with the Rams when they beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, in Super Bowl 56.

While in Minnesota, the Vikings produced 98 sacks, good enough for second-most in the league.

With basically a whole new staff, it will be important for the Cowboys front office to give them the pieces to work with, which means being active in free agency and working the phones during the draft to add young talent to the roster.
