SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central wide receiver Jimmy Edwards has committed to play football for his hometown college, Angelo State University.
Edwards made the announcement Friday, choosing ASU over offers from Sul Ross State, Texas Wesleyan, Howard Payne and Sterling.
The 6-foot, 177-pound Edwards emerged as a dependable target in the Bobcats’ passing game the last two seasons, along with being a team leader.
He had 59 catches for 843 yards and nine touchdowns last year. The last two seasons, he racked up a combined 108 catches, 1,668 yards and 19 TDs.
Central head coach Mark Smith said Edwards has elite speed and can make plays in all levels of the passing game.
He was selected to San Angelo LIVE!’s All-Cover 1 Team each of the last two seasons.
Edwards helped Central go from 1-9 just two years ago to an 8-4 team last season that won the program’s first playoff game since 2020.
He’s the fifth Bobcat from last season to commit to play college football, joining fellow wide receivers Colton Hill (UT Permian Basin) and Gabriel Garcia (Sterling), along with linebackers Mason Van Sickle (UT Permian Basin) and Jaekob Jackson (West Texas A&M).
