RICHARDSON, TX — Angelo State third baseman Zoey Sifuentes has been named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week after a standout performance at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge presented by West Texas Steel.
Sifuentes hit .500 with three doubles and three RBIs as the Rambelles went 4-1 during the weekend tournament at Mayer Softball Field in San Angelo. The Lamesa native posted a .706 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage while scoring four runs, drawing five walks and being hit by two pitches.
The kinesiology major has continued her strong start to the season, batting .480 with a .629 on-base percentage and a team-leading .920 slugging percentage. Eight of her 12 hits have gone for extra bases, and she ranks second on the team in RBIs (12) and walks (7). Her six doubles are tied for the Lone Star Conference lead and her 1.549 OPS ranks third in the league.
The honor marks the first weekly award of Sifuentes’ collegiate career.
The second-ranked Rambelles travel to Florida this weekend for a five-game road trip.
