Water Valley's Lacy Signs to Play College Football at Hardin-Simmons

WATER VALLEY, TX — A local six-man football star has signed to play 11-man at the next level.

Water Valley quarterback Landon Lacy signed Wednesday to play at Hardin-Simmons University, an NCAA Division III college in Abilene. Lacy’s family, coaching staff and the entire school was in attendance to watch him sign his letter of intent.

“I feel good,” Lacy said. “Definitely a dream come true.”

Not many student-athletes make the jump from six-man to 11-man, but Hardin-Simmons stuck by Lacy.

“I’ve grown up with all my uncles being 11-man coaches. So, growing up I’ve gone to camps with them, so I’ve kind of trained like an 11-man quarterback,” Lacy said.

While the moment was about Lacy, he did not forget who helped him get to where he is.

Lacy said, “I love my teammates. Those guys stuck with me through thick and thin. They’re the greatest teammates ever, and words can’t say how great they are. They’re my ride or dies.”

Of course, Lacy also spoke about his coaching staff, including head coach Trey Sisco.

“The legendary Trey Sisco … unbelievable. He’s so smart and just kind of guides me. He molded me into a leader, but he’s been the leader for everybody. All my other coaches helped me along the way, and I’m just so grateful for them,” Lacy said.

Lacy was a first-team all-region quarterback and a first-team all-state safety for the Wildcats this past season.

He was 84-of-118 passing for 1,792 yards and 30 touchdowns with only three interceptions. On the ground, he added 321 yards and seven scores. Defensively, he had 73 tackles, one tackle for loss, seven interceptions and one defensive TD.

Lacy was also the Co-MVP of the All-Cover 1 Six-Man Team with teammate Boston Wiese.
