San Angelo Central’s TK Taylor Named District 2-6A MVP

SAN ANGELO, TX — After leading the Central Bobcats to their first undisputed district title in 14 years, senior TK Taylor was named the MVP of District 2-6A.

Taylor, a 6-foot-6 power forward, helped the Bobcats go 29-5 overall and 11-1 in district, followed by a playoff win over El Paso Coronado.

Central’s season ended in the area round of the Class 6A Division II playoffs with a 76-65 loss to Crowley.

Taylor anchored the Bobcats’ defense and was a versatile player on offense. He could score in or out of the post, and he was a willing passer when defenses collapsed on him.

Central’s Arsenio Geter was also named the district’s Coach of the Year.

Senior guard Ean McNeill, who was arguably the best shooter in all of West Texas, was a first-team selection along with junior guard Trey Allen.

Senior Jaylen Franklin and junior Miguel Zamarron were named to the second team.

Odessa Permian sophomore KJ Miller was named Offensive Player of the Year, while senior Javariene Beck was the Defensive Player of the Year.

Frenship junior Maddux Archibald was the Newcomer of the Year.

Central’s Gipson Named District’s Co-Defensive Player of Year

San Angelo Central senior Jazmyne Gipson was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in District 2-6A, along with Frenship’s Mazzy Beam and Midland Legacy’s Erinn Mayberry.

Gipson led a Central defense that allowed only 32.4 points per game, helping the team go 22-12 overall and earn fourth place in district before a first-round playoff loss.

Central also had the Co-Sixth Man of the Year as freshman Taliyah Franklin shared the award with Odessa Permian’s Zimra George-Pride.

Other Lady Cats represented on the team included junior Karsyn Scott, who was a first-team selection, and seniors Kaylen Franklin and Brooklyn Fulks, who were named to the second team.

Frenship’s Jada Jackson was named the district’s MVP after leading her team to its 10th consecutive district title. Her teammate, Addisyn Bollinger, was the Offensive Player of the Year.

Permian’s Michael Ellis was the district’s Coach of the Year, while Gracyn Willard was the Newcomer of the Year.
