ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Cowboys have traded for a pass rusher prior to the start of free agency.
Last season, the Dallas Cowboys traded linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers and, in return, snagged Kenny Clark and a couple of first-round picks. Today, the Cowboys made another trade with the Packers for pass rusher Rashan Gary in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Drafted by Green Bay in 2019, Gary was the 12th overall pick out of Michigan. He has never had double-digit sacks but had 9.5 in 2021, then posted a 9-sack season in 2023, followed by 7.5 the last two years. Overall, he has 46.5 sacks, 6 passes defended, 7 forced fumbles and 8 fumble recoveries.
The Cowboys were reportedly heavily involved in talks concerning defensive end Maxx Crosby before he was traded from Las Vegas to Baltimore over the weekend.
Gary has familiarity with new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who was in Green Bay for a couple seasons. He is also reunited with former teammate Clark.
Dallas needed a defensive end and could still sign a free agent or draft one in next month's NFL Draft. On the interior, the Cowboys are pretty set with Quinnen Williams, Clark and Osa Odighizuwa, but were lacking on the end with so many players set to hit the free agent market.
Still, the Cowboys will need to be active over the next couple months to address a poor defense.
