ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Cowboys have made two trades for draft picks, including one with a historic rival.
On Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys traded defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 third-round draft pick.
While not a massive haul, the move made sense for the Cowboys who were without any Day 2 draft picks. On Day 1 of the NFL Draft, the Cowboys own the 12th and 20th overall selections. Their next selection could have been on Day 3 of the draft in the fourth round at 112th overall. Now, they have the 92nd overall pick.
It's worth noting that the Cowboys have done a decent job in the third round in recent years, adding players like Odighizuwa, Demarion Overshown and Cooper Bebee.
During the 2025 season, the Cowboys added two defensive tackles in Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams in trades with the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets. In fact, they gave up their second-round pick this season for Williams and their third-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver George Pickens.
Odighizuwa was sort of the odd man out after the Cowboys added Otito Ogbonnia, a nose tackle who was with the Los Angeles Chargers. It should be noted former Dallas Cowboy defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is now with the San Francisco coaching staff. Odighizuwa was a solid player in Dallas, earning a second contract worth $80 million, which more than likely was one of the reasons he was traded.
In addition to trading Odighizuwa, Dallas also traded defensive end Solomon Thomas to the Tennessee Titans for a seventh-round pick in the upcoming draft. This does leave the Cowboys a little bare at the defensive end position, even with the addition of Rashan Gary. We're still in the free-agency period, and there are serviceable players available, but one would expect Dallas to use at least one of their two first-round picks to bolster the defensive line, especially at edge.
