SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State will look to rebound from its first four-game series loss in more than a year when it travels to Laredo for a four-game Lone Star Conference series against Texas A&M International beginning Friday.
The Rams dropped three of four games to UT Dallas last weekend, marking their first series loss of that length since February 2024.
Angelo State opens the series at 2 p.m. Friday at Jorge Haynes Field. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday with two seven-inning games scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Last time out, Nick Gray earned the Rams’ lone win against UT Dallas, pitching five scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out six. He issued five walks and limited opponents to a .063 batting average.
Relievers Luke Spencer and David Dressendorfer also contributed strong outings. Spencer threw four scoreless innings across two appearances, while Dressendorfer logged six innings of relief in the series finale.
At the plate, Chase Pendley and Brett Smajstrla led Angelo State with .333 batting averages. Smajstrla scored a team-high eight runs, matching Tate Greene, who hit .308.
Scouting Report: Texas A&M International
Texas A&M International enters the weekend at 10-16 overall and on a six-game losing streak, though the Dustdevils are 7-4 at home. They were swept in their previous series at Lubbock Christian.
The Dustdevils are batting .285 as a team, ranking ninth in the Lone Star Conference. Eddie Saenz leads the offense with a .398 average, along with 35 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs. Ciro Benavides is hitting .392 with a 1.097 OPS and leads the team with three triples.
Texas A&M International’s pitching staff has a 7.57 ERA, ranking 10th in the conference. Dylan Kinney leads the rotation with a 5.67 ERA, while AJ Sanchez has recorded a team-high 21 strikeouts in 22 innings over eight appearances.
