WALL, TX — The No. 7 Wall Hawks put forth another dominant performance in Wall on Thursday afternoon, this time, against Grape Creek. The Hawks struck early and often to claim a 28-0 win after five innings.
"We just took advantage of situations, getting guys on with hit-by-pitch, which you love to see," head coach Jeremy Gordon said after the win. "You love to see the toughness and grittiness of it. Also, getting guys on with walks, stealing bags, and then some timely hitting in the gaps to empty the bases."
Wall went up big early, scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding another 15 in the bottom of the second. Up 27, the Hawks added a final run in the bottom of the 3rd inning before cruising to a 28-0 win by the middle of the 5th.
Hagyn Barbee, Jacob Braden and Reid Ballard led the way for the Hawks offensively. Barbee finished 2-2 at the plate and had four RBIs. Both Braden and Ballard finished 4-4 at the plate. Ballard also hit the lone home run of the afternoon. Braden drove in five runs, while Ballard finished with three RBIs.
On defense, Ballard received the win for his performance on the mound. He pitched five complete innings, allowed only two hits and one walk, and finished the contest with 10 strikeouts.
"Reid Ballard had a great day on the mound," Gordon continued. "He threw a ton of strikes and got ahead in pretty much all the counts. Pretty impressive day for him on the bump."
Grape Creek's Zane Durham and Edgar Torres each collected a hit for the Eagles' offense.
With its 11th straight win, Wall improved to 15-8, while Grape Creek fell to 1-8-1.
Next up, the Hawks and Eagles face a rematch in Grape Creek on Tuesday.
