SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State’s heptathlon and decathlon athletes completed the opening day of competition Thursday at the 54th David Noble Relays at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
Abril Okon leads the Rambelles after Day 1, sitting in fifth place with 3,111 points. She posted top-three finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump. Ahead of Okon in the standings are three athletes from Kansas State and UT Tyler’s Juliane Frueh, the Lone Star Conference pentathlon champion.
Kylie Frush is seventh with 2,946 points, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 24.40 seconds. She also recorded a personal-best throw of 10.26 meters in the shot put.
Gracie Stephens is also in seventh place with 2,709 points, while Sealie Hughes sits 13th with 2,320 points.
On the men’s side, Travis Matthews leads the Rams and is seventh in the decathlon with 3,706 points. His performance included fourth-place finishes in both the long jump and shot put.
The multi-event competition resumed Friday, with the decathlon and heptathlon in progress in the afternoon.
Field events, including the shot put and triple jump, are scheduled for 5 p.m., while the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 10,000-meter run will begin at 7 p.m. on the track.
