Veribest Boys Basketball Coach Steps Down After Program’s Best Season

VERIBEST, TX — Veribest High School boys basketball coach Miles Romine has decided to step down following the best season in program history.

Romine led the Falcons to a 26-9 record and a pair of playoff wins to send them to the regional semifinals for the first time.

Their season ended with a loss to eventual state champion Jayton.

After the season, Romine decided to step away from coaching to spend more time with his family. He will remain at Veribest as a teacher.

Veribest is now searching for a new coach to take over the program.

The Falcons made a big jump last year after missing the playoffs in 2025 with a fifth-place finish in district.

Veribest finished as the runner-up in a competitive District 11-1A race in 2026, highlighted by a win over state-ranked Water Valley, which went on to reach the regional final.

Veribest then rolled to convincing playoff wins over Paint Rock (75-44) and Dell City (60-22).

The Falcons have some promising talent returning, including junior Sterling Salvato and sophomore Lorenzo Hight, who both earned first-team all-district honors. Another sophomore, Tucker Martin, was a second-team all-district selection.
