SAN ANGELO, TX — Lake View senior Jeremy Zavala was named the MVP on the All-District 2-4A Soccer Team to lead the Chiefs’ and Maidens’ showings recently.
Zavala scored 28 goals and added 12 assists to help the Chiefs win their fifth straight district title while extending their district winning streak to 63 games.
Lake View (20-3-1) went on to defeat El Paso Austin 4-3 in the opening round of the playoffs before falling to Decatur 3-2 in the next round.
Lake View’s Gio Mendoza was named the district’s Offensive MVP after posting 19 goals and 12 assists.
Uli Chavez was named the Midfielder of the Year with 22 goals and a team-high 20 assists.
Chiefs head coach Kyle Jones and assistant Michael Hammock were named Coaching Staff of the Year.
First-team selections for the Chiefs included Evan Gallegos, Santiago Martinez and Izaiah Rios, while second-team honors went to Kevin Cardenas, Rob Engle, Xavior Hinojos and Sebastian Heredia.
Earning honorable mention were Omar Chavez, Abel Mota and Santiago Soria.
The Maidens were led on their all-district team by Alexys Tryels, who was named Goalkeeper of the Year after recording 14 shutouts in 18 district games.
The Maidens went 11-8-4 overall and 11-4-3 in district to finish in fourth place. They lost 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs to San Elizario.
First-team selections for the Maidens included Avery Hansen, Angelica Delacruz and Adisyn Lopez. Second-team picks were Soriah Morrison and Cecilia Soria.
Garnering honorable mention were Valeria Chavez, Livia Garcia, Maria Ibarra and Milena Olasuaga.
