No. 8 Wall Completes Sweep Over No. 9 Clyde

WALL, TX — The No. 8 Wall Lady Hawks won a defensive battle, 3-1, over the No. 9 Clyde Lady Bulldogs in Wall on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Hawks took advantage of an error in the third inning to help secure the win and the district sweep over Clyde.

Wall handed Clyde its first loss of the season last week.

"Coming off the win last Thursday, we knew we could come into this one and do it again," Coach Allyson Seider said after the win. "We just kept talking about competing for the entire game until it's over, and we would find ourselves in a good spot. And that's what happened."

Clyde (20-2) struck first in the top of the third inning. A single scored one before the Lady Hawks managed to get out of a bases-loaded jam. In the bottom of the third inning, Wall (24-4) struck back.

Brynly McClintock reached first thanks to an error before Kaimee Smith moved McClintock over to second on a sacrifice bunt. Shyanne Floyd then laid down a bunt single to put runners at first and third, before Floyd stole second. After a pop-out and a walk from Jai Kleman, Madee Williams stepped into the batter's box and delivered what would be the hit to secure the win. She hit a shot to the second baseman that the Lady Bulldogs could not handle. The ball trickled to right field, scoring McClintock, Floyd and Kleman. The hit may have gone down as an error, but Williams proved to be the hero at the plate on Tuesday.

Neither team threatened to score for the remainder of the game, and Wall claimed the victory after seven innings, 3-1.

Williams received the win for her performance inside the circle on Tuesday. She pitched seven innings, allowed only three hits and one run (zero earned). She was dominant throughout, walking only two and striking out 11.

"She has come out in the last two games and done a phenomenal job," Seider said of her starting pitcher's performance. "We know what we are going to get with her, and she's really stepped it up. She's hitting her spot and allowing us to move the ball in and out, up with her rise, and also has her change. She continues to work on the mound and does what we call, and helps put us in a good position."

The Lady Bulldogs received a similar gem inside the circle from freshman pitcher Brynli Reynolds, who pitched six innings, allowed four hits and three runs (zero earned). She added one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Floyd, Elise Jordan, Williams and Abby Werner all collected hits for the Lady Hawks.

With the win, the Lady Hawks (9-2 in district) are back in the running for the District 6-3A title. The Lady Hawks need some help from Clyde (7-2 in district), which still has two games against Jim Ned (8-0). Wall will host Jim Ned in the Lady Hawks' regular-season finale at 4 p.m. Friday, April 17.
