WEIMAR, TX — Ganado High School junior Kalyn Benavides had a historic game Tuesday with four home runs in a 16-0 win over Weimar.
Benavides hit a HR in all four of her official at-bats, driving in eight runs. She was walked in her only other plate appearance.
Benavides now has 13 HRs on the season for the No. 1-ranked Maidens, who improved to 23-2-1.
Ganado, which is located in southeast Texas between Victoria and Houston, is the defending Class 2A Division I state champion.
Benavides, who is the team’s catcher, hit .524 last year as a sophomore with eight HRs, including one in the state semifinals. She hit four HRs as a freshman.
She committed only two errors last year and has none this season.
Though she plays at one of the smallest levels of high school softball, the 5-foot-8 star is surely garnering some college attention.
