SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State baseball team will host West Texas A&M this weekend with both teams battling for playoff positioning.
The Rams (25-13) are in fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings, while WT (23-15) is in fifth.
The series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. The Budweiser Clydesdales will make a special appearance before the game from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A pair of seven-innings games will be played Saturday, beginning at 4 p.m. The series finale will be at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The top seven teams in the LSC standings will make the end-of-season conference tournament, so both teams are in good position to qualify, but each would also like to improve their position for the upcoming regional rankings, which will largely determine who advances to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
A team can also automatically qualify by winning its conference tournament.
ASU is coming off a series split in a four-game set at St. Edward’s last week in Austin. WT is on a three-game losing streak after dropping three of four against Lubbock Christian last week.
After a four-game series at Eastern New Mexico next week, ASU will close out the regular season at home against Cameron on April 24-26.
