Mason Basketball Star Whitworth Signs With Angelo State

 

MASON, TX — Mason High School senior Anna Marie Whitworth signed Friday to play basketball at Angelo State University.

Whitworth, a 6-foot-2 forward, helped Mason reach its first-ever state final this past season.

She averaged 21.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, leading the Cowgirls to a 40-2 record and a state ranking of No. 2 in Class 2A.

She scored over 2,000 points during her high school career.

Whitworth was an all-state selection and the Offensive MVP of the San Angelo LIVE! All-Star Basketball Team.

She also received offers from Houston Christian, Ouachita Baptist, Oklahoma Baptist and D’Youville.

Whitworth is joining an ASU program that went 15-12 last season and lost in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. After a 5-9 start, the Rambelles had a 10-game winning streak to make a late run at earning a spot in the regional tournament.

Whitworth with join teammate Ainsley Burns in San Angelo, though Burns signed to play with ASU's golf program.

Other players rom the region on the roster include Christoval's Halle Hughes, Fredericksburg's Taylor Grona, Lubbock's Majik Esquivel and New Home's Addy Burns.
