SAN ANGELO, TX — With eight games remaining in the regular season, No. 19 Angelo State will travel to Portales, New Mexico, for a four-game Lone Star Conference series against Eastern New Mexico beginning Friday.
The Rams (28-14) open the series at 7 p.m. Friday at Greyhound Baseball Field. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday with two seven-inning games scheduled for 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., followed by the series finale at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Last time out, Angelo State secured its seventh series victory of the season last weekend, taking three of four games from West Texas A&M despite challenging weather conditions.
The Rams’ pitching staff limited the Buffs to five runs over the first two games of the series. Clayton Broeder allowed three hits over 3 2/3 innings before a lightning delay cut his outing short. Garrett Villa and Garrett Baumann combined for the final 6 2/3 innings in Friday’s win.
At the plate, Austin Beck led the Rams with a .583 batting average, a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.083 slugging percentage. He recorded seven hits, including two home runs, and drove in multiple runs while also adding stolen bases. Payton Bush, Chase Pendley, Hunter Holt and Tate Greene each hit above .300 during the series.
Angelo State leads the all-time series with Eastern New Mexico 75-24 and has won 28 of the last 30 meetings dating back to 2019. The Rams are 30-13 all-time in Portales and have averaged more than nine runs per game in the series.
Scouting Report: Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds enter the weekend 15-27 overall and have dropped six of their last eight games. The Greyhounds have a 7-12 home record but recently earned a series split against conference-leading UT Tyler.
Offensively, Eastern New Mexico is batting .287 as a team. Eiji Sawamura leads the lineup with a .360 average, along with team highs in hits (58) and stolen bases (17). Gabriel Watson provides power with 10 home runs and the team’s only OPS above 1.000.
On the mound, the Greyhounds have a 9.16 team ERA. Demitrius DiMatteo leads the staff with a 3.58 ERA and has held opponents to a .251 batting average.
