Beck Breaks All-Time Hits, RBI Records for Angelo State Rams

PORTALES, N.M. — Angelo State University's Austin Beck became the program's all-time leader in hits and RBIs on Sunday, leading the No. 19-ranked Rams to a 9-4 win over Eastern New Mexico.

Beck, a redshirt senior, went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. His record-breaking hit came in the second inning when he tripled down the right-field line to drive in Payton Bush for the game's first run, setting the program marks for both hits (311) and RBIs (214).

With the win, the Rams completed the series sweep — their eighth series victory of the season — and improved to 32-14 overall and 19-4 on the road.

ASU built an early lead in support of Beck's milestone performance. After his RBI triple in the second, Brett Smajstrla added a run with a groundout to make it 2-0.

The Rams extended the lead in the third. Bush delivered a two-RBI single to right field, and Beck followed with a sacrifice fly to double the advantage.

In the fourth, Blake Wilhoite capitalized on a pickoff attempt, allowing Jordan Kelly to score from third.

Eastern New Mexico answered with a two-RBI double that teetered with the left field line in the fourth, but Angelo State responded with three runs in the fifth. Beck added another RBI single, followed by run-scoring hits from Smajstrla and Kelly.

On the mound, Luke Spencer earned the start and worked five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four. Isaac Godard followed with 3 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs and striking out four.

The Greyhounds threatened in the ninth, but Garrett Baumann entered and induced a game-ending double play on four pitches to secure the sweep.

The Rams will return home to conclude the 2026 regular season with a four-game series against Cameron beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 24 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
