Angelo State Athletes Sweep Weekly LSC Track and Field Honors

RICHARDSON, TX — Angelo State swept the Lone Star Conference’s weekly men’s track and field awards, the league announced, with Jonathan Wright earning Field Athlete of the Week honors and the Rams’ 4x100-meter relay team named Track Athletes of the Week.

Wright, an engineering major from Coahoma, won the pole vault at the Greyhound Open with a mark of 16 feet, 11 inches (5.16 meters). His performance ranks second in the Lone Star Conference and 12th nationally.

The relay team of Bautista Diamante, Taylor Briggs, Francis Patanpatan and William Opare captured the 4x100-meter title at the meet with a time of 39.75 seconds. The mark is third-best in the nation this season and set a new school record, surpassing the previous record set in 1981.

Wright is the first Angelo State field athlete to earn a weekly award during the outdoor season, while the relay honor marks the Rams’ fourth track award this year.

Angelo State returns to competition this week, hosting the ASU Invite at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
