ODESSA, TX — The San Angelo Central gymnastics teams each took fourth place Saturday at the state meet.
For Central’s girls, it brought an end to their seven-year reign atop Texas. The Lady Cats’ dynasty has won 15 state titles overall.
L.D. Bell won the girls team title with 130.350 points, followed by Round Rock (129.675), Euless Trinity (127.925) and Central (127.525).
LD Bell’s Maddie Thomas won the all-around title.
The Lady Cats were led by Allison Garnett, who was seventh in the all-around and finished on the uneven bars and floor exercise.
Serena Lopez was fourth on the floor, while Steely Young was seventh on vault and Ava Bedard was 10th on vault.
In the boys competition, Round Rock won the team title with 346.1 points, followed by Rockwall (341), Saginaw (340.8) and Central (320.5).
Round Rock’s Diego Ciacii won the all-around title.
The Bobcats were led by Carson Edwards, who was seventh in the all-around, and Brady Stewart, who was 10th.
Edwards’ performance was highlighted by three top 10 finishes. He was eighth in the rings and tied for 10th in the floor and high bar.
