EULA, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks took advantage of two three-run home runs to down Jacksboro in Game 1 of the Area Round Playoff matchup in Eula on Wednesday night. Despite trailing midway through the contest, the Lady Hawks overcame the deficit in a big way to take Game 1, 9-4.
Wall took the lead early on in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Madee Williams hit a solo shot to left field. After Jacksboro tied the game in the top of the 4th inning, Wall battled back to retake the lead in the bottom of the frame. This time, Mckinlee Alexander lined out to center, but not before her sacrifice RBI scored Brunly McClintock.
Jacksboro battled back and even took a two-run advantage in the top of the 5th inning. A 2-run shot and then a solo home run gave the Tigerettes a 4-2 advantage headed to the bottom of the 5th.
The offensive fireworks continued in the bottom half of the frame. Down two runs, the Lady Hawks had to put together some offense, and the ladies delivered. First, Jordan Chitsey cranked a 3-run shot to right field to give the Lady Hawks back the advantage with one swing of the bat. Then Madee Williams hit her second home run of the contest, also a 3-run home run, on another homer to right field.
Wall led 8-4, headed to the 6th, and never looked back.
The Lady Hawks would add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning, but thanks to solid pitching and defense, the Tigerettes never threatened again. Wall took Game 1, 9-4.
Madee Williams pitched all seven innings in the circle for Wall in the win. She allowed six hits and four earned runs, while adding four strikeouts and eight walks.
With the win, the Lady Hawks take a 1-0 series advantage into Game 2 of the Area Round. First pitch for Game 2 is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday in Eula.
