WALL, TX — In a stunning turn of events, the Wall High School softball team is back in the playoffs after its season seemingly ended Monday.
On Wednesday, Jacksboro — which knocked Wall out of the playoffs two days ago — self-reported to the UIL that it had used an ineligible player, disqualifying the Tigerettes from the postseason.
Wall will now take Jacksboro’s place in the Class 3A Division II regional semifinals this week against Canadian.
The UIL confirmed Jacksboro’s forfeiture in a statement:
“Jacksboro ISD self-reported the participation of an ineligible player during the 2025-26 softball season. Per the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules, the minimum penalty is forfeiture of all games in which the player participated. As a result, Jacksboro High School has withdrawn from the UIL state softball playoffs, and area-round opponent Wall High School will advance to the regional semifinal matchup against Canadian High School,” the statement read.
Jacksboro had a dramatic 3-2 win over Wall in Game 3 of their area-round series when the Tigerettes scored three times in the seventh and final inning.
Wall, which spent much of the season ranked in the top 10 in the state, is a dangerous team to give new life. The Lady Hawks' record dropped to 26-7 with the 2-1 series loss, though it should now be adjusted to 27-5. They'll draw a Canadian team with a 24-7 record.
The matchup with Canadian will be a one-game playoff at 6 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
