Angelo State Track Teams Claim Top 3 Finishes at LSC Meet

 

CANYON, TX — The Angelo State track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Lone Star Conference Championships on Saturday with the Rams finishing second and the Rambelles taking third.

The lead changed hands multiple times between the Rams and West Texas A&M before the Buffs earned a dramatic one-point win — 166 to 165.

In field action Saturday, Jaime Moreno won the title in javelin with a throw of 226-6 (69.04m), while Dayvon Williams claimed top honors in the high jump with a best mark of 6-8.75 (2.05m).

Ekaternia Fedotova finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 136-2 (41.50m), and in men's shot put, Vanam Sharma finished as the runner-up with a throw of 56-3.25 (17.15m).

On the track, the women's 4x100m relay team of Kylie FrushShackelia Green, Aaliyah Harrison and Kinlee Lawlis finished second with a time of 45.61 seconds, a season best and the 21st-best mark in the country. 

Lawlis also finished on the podium in the 100 meters, placing third with a time of 11.87 seconds.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Bautista DiamanteTaylor BriggsFrancis Patanpatan and William Opare crossed the line first with a time of 39.64 seconds, narrowly beating Texas A&M-Kingsville's 39.83.

Opare also won the 100 meters in 10.14.

Rami Balti and Jahleel Armstrong finished 1-2 in the 400 meters, each recording personal bests, breaking the tape in 45.83 and 46.35 seconds, respectively. Balti's time is fifth in the country while Armstrong's is 14th.

Karl Patanpatan collected the bronze medal in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.05, and Lainey Jernigan placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:00.80.

Reece Waddell then won the men's 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 52.19 seconds.

Francis Patanpatan and Armstrong finished second and third in the 200 meters with nearly identical times, but Patanpatan's 21.055 edged Armstrong's 21.060.

The women's 4x400 team of Keagan GalmorHelene Wiethoff, Frush and Emma Dikken finished fourth, crossing the line with a time of 3:41.88, the 20th-best time in the country in the event.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Balti, Briggs, Diamante and Armstrong won the event with a time of 3:06.40 to close the weekend's action.

The Rams and Rambelles will next compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, scheduled for May 21-23 in Emporia, Kansas.
