Wall Hawks 1-Hit Coahoma in Regional Semifinal Opener

ABILENE, TX — Wall’s Kellan Oliver had a superb performance on the pitcher’s mound and at the plate Friday to lead the Hawks to a 13-1 win over Coahoma in Game 1 of their Class 3A Division II regional semifinal series.

Oliver allowed only one hit in five innings while striking out nine, and he was 3-for-5 in the batter’s box with a triple and four RBIs.

Wyatt Jost and Kalan Sanders each threw a no-hit inning to finish off the win.

The defending state champion Hawks took control early with three runs in the first inning, then scored four more in the fourth and another in the fifth for an 8-0 lead.

Coahoma scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth. Wall added another run in the sixth and four more in the sixth.

The Hawks’ offense produced 15 hits and saw 2-for-4 performances from Hagyn Barbee, Jacob Braden, Lawson Dankworth and Tyler Klinesmith.

Wall improved to 28-9, while Coahoma fell to 14-13-1.

The two teams will continue their series with Game 2 at noon Saturday back at Walt Driggers Field at McMurry University in Abilene. An if-necessary Game 3 will follow 30 minutes later.
