TYLER, TX – The No. 3-seeded Angelo State baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday after dropping a pair of games to No. 2 UT Tyler.
The Rams needed just one win to advance to the Super Regional, but they weren’t able to get it done against a Patriots team that ended ASU’s year for the second consecutive season.
ASU concludes the season with a 42-19 record, marking the program's seventh consecutive 40-win season. The Rams, however, will miss the Super Regional round for the first time since the format's introduction in 2019.
UT Tyler took control early in the opening game of the day with five runs in the third inning before adding four more in the fifth to build a commanding lead.
The Patriots went on to win 13-3.
In the winner-take-all finale, it was UT Tyler’s dominant pitching that paved the way.
ASU was unable to place a leadoff runner aboard and reached scoring position only twice while striking out 10 times.
UT Tyler capitalized on free passes, nine hits and a defensive miscue to score runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings before adding two more in the eighth for a 5-0 win.
UT Tyler advances to play No. 1 Colorado Mesa next week in Grand Junction, Colorado, for the right to play in the NCAA Division II College World Series.
