NFL Announces Cowboys' Training Camp Dates

FRISCO, TX — The Dallas Cowboys will open training camp July 28 in Oxnard, California, the NFL announced on Monday.

Veterans and rookies are scheduled to report that day before the team begins preparations for the 2026 season.

Dallas will again incorporate joint practices into its camp schedule. The Cowboys will travel to Los Angeles on Aug. 11 for a session with the Los Angeles Rams, followed by a second joint practice Aug. 18 in Oxnard against the New Orleans Saints.

The Rams previously traveled to Oxnard for a joint practice in 2025. This year’s matchup will feature added intrigue, as Dallas’ defense will face reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford, while the Cowboys’ offensive line will be tested by reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, who was acquired by Los Angeles in a June 1 trade.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said the addition of multiple joint practices is part of an effort to better prepare players physically heading into the season, especially with limits on contact during offseason workouts.

"It's a little harder to carry the pads later into the season," Schottenheimer said. "I do think, talking with our sports science people, there's a different way to really build some calluses during training camp. And then when the season starts, we're going to have a hard type of week, medium type of week and a light type of week. … I think that's all stuff that I've learned, and am using the people that are experts more than me on how the body works and how the body recovers."

The second joint practice will also reunite Dallas with former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, now the head coach of the Saints. The Cowboys defense, led by coordinator Christian Parker, is expected to face second-year quarterback Tyler Shough and rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson during the session.

The Cowboys’ full daily training camp schedule is expected to be released later this week.
