SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central defensive lineman Riley Oines announced his first NCAA Division I college offer Saturday from Drake University.
Oines’ recruiting interest has been heating up recently as he also earned offers from Division II University of Arkansas at Monticello and D-III programs Oberlin and Howard Payne.
Drake, located in Des Moines, Iowa, is an FCS school that went 8-4 last season.
Oines, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 278 pounds, has been on Central’s roster since his freshman year, an impressive accomplishment at the Class 6A level.
He earned second-team all-district honors as a sophomore and was an honorable-mention selection last season as a junior when he recorded 51 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
Oines projects to be one of Central’s defensive leaders this fall.
Oines has attended numerous camps this offseason at schools like Oklahoma State, Texas State, North Texas, Stephen F. Austin and SMU.
Oines is one of a handful of returning Bobcats who have received offers, including offensive lineman Ethan Boyd, who has committed to UTSA, along with quarterback Micah Smith, tight end/linebacker Tucker Beaty, and offensive linemen Parker Havercroft and Jeffrey Flood.
Central opens its season at home Aug. 28 against Abilene High.
