Ozona's Offensive Line Ranked No. 2 in Texas in Class 2A

OZONA, TX — The Ozona Lions received considerable attention last year due to the accomplishments of running back Christian Villarreal, who had one of the greatest seasons in Texas history with 3,667 rushing yards and 53 touchdowns in 11 games.

Now Ozona’s offensive linemen are getting some statewide respect.

Texas Football has ranked the Lions’ line the second-best in the state in Class 2A.

Ozona’s blocking front is led by Charles Harger, a 6-foot-1, 240-pound senior who was the district’s Offensive Lineman of the Year last season. He graded out at a remarkable 98% and didn’t allow a sack.

Junior Sergio Almaguer (6-4, 285) is another returning starter on the line. Like Harger, he was selected to the San Angelo LIVE! All-Cover 1 Team. Almaguer graded out at 93% last year and allowed only one sack.

Senior Alex Mata (6-4, 275) is also back after earning first-team all-district honors last year. According to Texas Football, his offseason training consisted of working in the Midland oil fields.

Senior Jordan Vega (6-6, 260) is another returning lineman who was second-team all-district last year and has the versatility to play at tight end.

Senior Darrius Galindo (5-11, 320) is a top candidate to be Ozona’s fifth starting lineman.

“We’re a pretty big O-Line,” Ozona head coach Jason Pitts told Texas Football. “You can say big for 2A, but we’re pretty big in general.”

Ozona’s line will provide an important foundation as the Lions try to build on last year’s 10-1 season while replacing Villarreal, along with quarterback Michael Preddy.

Boston Pitts is expected to take over at QB, while Andon Glosson could be next in line at RB.

Ozona will head into the season ranked No. 16 in the state in Class 2A Division I.

Alvord claimed the top spot in Texas Football’s offensive line rankings with Thorndale at No. 3, Moody at No. 4 and Tenaha at No. 5.
