MILWAUKEE, WI — Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS Sports NFL analyst Tony Romo was arrested Thursday night in Wisconsin on an alleged operating while intoxicated charge, according to reports and jail records.
Romo, 46, was taken into custody after being stopped while driving on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee County at about 8 p.m., according to FOX6 Milwaukee. Authorities reported that he performed poorly on field sobriety tests before being arrested on a first-offense OWI allegation.
He was booked and later released. Romo is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Sept. 21, according to court records cited by FOX6.
Neither the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office nor CBS immediately responded to requests for comment from multiple media outlets.
Romo spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2003. He retired following the 2016 season and joined CBS Sports in 2017, where he has served as the network's lead NFL game analyst.
Under Wisconsin law, a first-offense OWI is generally handled as a civil violation rather than a criminal offense, though penalties can include fines and other sanctions if a person is found responsible.
