WACO, TX — The Angelo State Rams are in the mix with some of the better teams in Division II football after the American Football Coaches Association released its preseason coaches' poll Tuesday afternoon, with the Rams receiving votes but just outside the Top 25.
After a disappointing 6-5 finish to a 2025 riddled with injuries and other adversity, the Rams look to bounce back in a big way in 2026.
The Rams are one of five Lone Star Conference programs recognized in the preseason rankings as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Angelo State's schedule features five opponents that were either ranked or received votes in the preseason poll during the first six weeks of the Rams' season. Fort Hays State and West Texas A&M both received votes, while Central Washington is ranked No. 7, Western Colorado is No. 11 and Western Oregon is No. 22. Later in the season, the Rams will face No. 18 UT Permian Basin in Week 9.
The Rams open 2026 at home Thursday, Aug. 27, against Fort Hays State at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field. The program will hold a Blue Out for the season opener, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
