Central Bobcats in Control at Halftime Over Abilene High

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 2026 football season is off to an encouraging start for the Central Bobcats, who hold a 14-3 lead over No. 18-ranked Abilene High at halftime.

After their first drive resulted in a punt, the Bobcats scored the next two times they touched the ball.

Micah Smith threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tucker Beaty with 2:27 to go in the first quarter. Then Smith scored on a 2-yard scramble with 10:31left in the second quarter.

Central’s defense, meanwhile, allowed only a 33-yard field goal - though the Bobcats did catch a break when the Eagles dropped a wide-open pass in the end zone.

Central also had a scare late in the first half when running back Zey Johnson took a hit to his knee and hobbled off the field. 

Johnson had eight carries for 40 yards in the first half.

Smith was 9-of-16 passing for 94 yards.
