Mahomes and the KC Chiefs Outlast Indianapolis in OT

KANSAS CITY, MO — Harrison Butker kicked two field goals in overtime, including a 40-yarder as time expired, to lift the Kansas City Chiefs to a 33-30 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, Kenneth Walker III rushed for 117 yards, and Travis Kelce caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown as Kansas City improved to 2-0.

Daniel Jones threw for 210 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Indianapolis, which fell to 0-2. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

Kansas City appeared to have won the game earlier in overtime after Butker kicked a 31-yard field goal to give the Chiefs the lead.

On the Colts' ensuing possession, Jones went deep to Laquon Treadwell, who beat L'Jarius Snead and made the catch before the ball came loose. The play was initially ruled a fumble recovered by Kansas City, but a review determined Treadwell was down by contact.

Indianapolis was unable to capitalize with a touchdown and eventually faced fourth-and-8.

Indianapolis tied the game with the field goal, giving Kansas City the ball back with 3:11 remaining in overtime.

The Chiefs handed the ball to Walker on three consecutive plays to reach midfield. Mahomes then connected with Walker for 22 yards, putting Kansas City in position for Butker's game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired.

Kansas City moved the ball consistently throughout the first half, with each of its first four possessions putting the Chiefs in scoring position. Butker missed a 51-yard field-goal attempt during that stretch.

Indianapolis kept pace behind Taylor, Tyler Warren and Josh Downs. Warren caught three passes and a touchdown, while Taylor rushed for 75 yards in the first half, including a 24-yard touchdown run that gave the Colts a 20-17 halftime lead.

Kansas City controlled the ball for all but 2:22 of the third quarter. Mahomes threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Jalen Royals, and the Chiefs added a Butker field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Indianapolis responded with an 8 1/2-minute drive capped by Taylor's second rushing touchdown, tying the game at 27 with 5:37 remaining.

Neither team scored again in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

The Colts return home to face the Houston Texans next Sunday. Kansas City will travel to face the Miami Dolphins.
