Central’s Zey Johnson Sets School Rushing Record

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central junior Zey Johnson had a record-breaking performance Friday in the Bobcats’ 52-29 win over Belton.

Johnson had 31 carries for 351 yards and four touchdowns, along with two catches for 18 yards and a TD.

Johnson’s incredible performance broke the previous record of 338 yards set by quarterback Malachi Brown against Fort Worth Richland in 2018.

Johnson, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 220 pounds, is a big-time college prospect who became Central’s starting running back last year as a sophomore, when he rushed for 1,042 yards and 16 TDs.

He already has 883 rushing yards through five games this season.

Johnson and the Bobcats have a bye this week before they visit Midland Greenwood next week for Central’s final nondistrict game.

The Bobcats will open District 2-6A play at home Oct. 16 against Midland Lee.
