SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo will again be represented at the National Finals Rodeo in December, but we’ll only have two cowboys in Las Vegas this year.
Brothers Joel and Ty Harris each qualified by finishing the season in the top 15 in the world standings.
Joel is in third place with season earnings of $216,540, while Ty is in sixth with $172,234.
It’s the third straight year Joel has qualified for the NFR. Ty is heading there for the eighth consecutive year.
Dylan Hancock has represented San Angelo the last two years, but he missed the cut this season with an 18th-place finish.
Last season, all three San Angelo cowboys finished in the top 10 in the world standings. Joel Harris was fourth, Hancock was sixth, and Ty Harris was ninth.
Defending world champion Riley Webb from Denton will take the No. 1 spot into this year’s NFR, and he has a big lead over the field with $345,249, which is more than $74,000 ahead of second-place Haven Meged from Miles City, Montana.
Nine of the top 15 cowboys are from Texas in a field that includes Mount Pleasant’s Kincade Henry in fourth, Perryton’s Trevor Hale in seventh, Huntsville’s John Douch in ninth, Prairie View’s Cory Solomon in 10th, Richards’ Buck Calhoun in 12th, and Canyon’s Quade Hiatt in 15th.
The NFR will be held Dec. 3-12 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
