Recruiting Roundup: Central’s Oines, Beaty Receive Offers From Kingsville

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central football standouts Riley Oines and Tucker Beaty recently announced college offers from Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Oines, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive lineman, had already received offers from NCAA Division I Drake, D-II Angelo State and Arkansas-Monticello, and D-III Howard Payne and Oberlin.

Now Kingsville, a longtime rival of Angelo State, has joined the mix.

Beaty, a 6-4, 215-pound prospect, has played at tight end and linebacker for the Bobcats. Kingsville is the second D-II program to offer him, along with UT Permian Basin.

Offensive lineman Jeffrey Flood has also been receiving numerous offers from D-III and NAIA programs. He now has eight offers from Bethel, Ottawa, Crown College, Clarke, Saint Mary, Kansas Wesleyan, Nelson and Howard Payne.

As for record-setting running back Zey Johnson, the junior hasn’t announced any offers yet, though he has recently had game day invites from D-I programs UTSA and Oklahoma State.

Johnson attended a game earlier this month at UTSA, where his teammate, offensive lineman Ethan Boyd, signed.

Johnson set Central’s single-game rushing record last month with 351 yards against Belton. He is now approaching the single-season rushing record of 1,701 yards set by Daven Manning in 2016. Johnson has 1,452 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Central is off to a 5-3 start this season and a 1-1 mark in District 2-6A.

The Bobcats will host Midland High at 7 p.m. Friday at San Angelo Stadium.

Across town, Lake View quarterback Chris Alvizo has received game day invites from Angelo State and UTPB, but he hasn’t announced any official offers yet.

The three-year starter led the Chiefs to their winningest season in 29 years last fall while throwing for 2,836 yards and 37 TDs in 11 games.

Lake View defensive lineman Conner Williams also has yet to announce an offer, though he’s been one of the best defensive players in the Concho Valley.

Out in the area, Mason’s Slade Buell picked up an offer from Pittsburg State, which has traditionally been one of the better D-II programs in the country.

Buell, who plays at QB and RB, has also been offered by D-II Fort Lewis and D-III McMurry.

Buell has led Mason to an undefeated record and the No. 2 ranking in the state in Class 2A Division I.
