SNYDER, TX — The Ballinger Lady Cats’ breakthrough volleyball season ended Saturday with a four-set loss to No. 5-ranked Ropes in the Class 2A Division I regional semifinals.
Ballinger was the underdog but came out and won a marathon first set before Ropes closed out the match by winning the next three in a 32-34, 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 victory.
Ballinger, which revived its volleyball program in 2021 after a 51-year absence, was in the playoffs for the first time since 1970.
The Lady Cats then won two playoff matches, including a five-set win over Olney in the area round after dropping the first two sets.
Ballinger’s season ended with a record of 24-15. Ropes improved to 33-10 and will play No. 6 Nocona in the regional final.
Ballinger will lose five seniors — Kyndal Rollwitz, Kyndall Weathers, Jolee Battle, Ava Aguilera and Deesa Drennan — who left a memorable impact on the program.
The Lady Cats return a promising group of underclassmen, including Kennedee Franke, Gabriella Escobar and Xavionna Johnson, sophomores Allie Clemens Addisyn Hill, and freshman Logan Conner.
Ballinger head coach Robynn Jones, who is in her second year with the school, led this year’s team.
