Lake View One Game Away from a District Championship

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs (7-2) host the Andrews Mustangs (4-5) at San Angelo Stadium on Friday in a winner-take-all district championship game. After the Chiefs set a school record, 76 points, in the win over Big Spring, Lake View has a unique opportunity to enter the playoffs as a No. 1-seed.

Head Coach Hector Guevara gave his thoughts on the win over Big Spring and previewed the matchup against Andrews at his weekly press conference at Lake View on Tuesday. Be sure to catch that press conference above.

The Chiefs are currently marching through a landmark season with the most wins since 1996. Lake View finished 9-3 that year with Sterlin Gilbert under center. The Chiefs also have a chance to win their first district championship since 2004.

To do that, the Chiefs will have to take down an Andrews team that Lake View has not managed to beat 18 times in a row. The Mustangs like to run the football and control the clock. If the Chiefs want to win, they need to force a few stops early and capitalize on those stops with Lake View's explosive offense. Forcing a few turnovers would also greatly improve the Chiefs' chances of a victory.

On offense, the Chiefs continue to roll, and should continue on that trend against Andrews. Lake View has the horses to go the distance; they just need to make the plays.

Kickoff in that matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at San Angelo Stadium.
