Wall's Hagyn Barbee Signs with Iowa Western
WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks saw another one of their athletes sign to continue their athletic careers at the next level last week. Hagyn Barbee, a talented multi-sport athlete, signed with Iowa Western to play baseball.
Friends and family alike gathered at Wall High School last Wednesday to watch Barbee make his decision.
Iowa Western is one of the premier junior colleges in the country in terms of athletics. In the last five years alone, the Reivers have claimed 30 national championships. Barbee hopes to add to that tally with the baseball team in the future.
Barbee is one of the key players who helped bring home a state championship last baseball season. On offense, Hagyn finished the year with a .495 batting average. On 53 hits, he compiled 39 singles, seven doubles, five triples, and two home runs. The Hawks' center fielder is also one of the fastest athletes on the base paths and is a danger to any defense when he's on base. Last season, Barbee finished the year with 35 stolen bases.
Barbee's list of accolades during his time at Wall also include a state championship in the 800-meter relay last spring, a runner-up finish in the 1600-meter relay, a state semifinal appearance in football last year, and he is currently is a member of the Hawks' football team that is in the state semifinals this week.
