Two Central Lady Cats Sign to Swim at the Collegiate Level
SAN ANGELO, TX — Two Central Lady Cats signed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level on Wednesday. Elsa Reel and Peyton Brandt signed with the University of New Mexico and Oklahoma Christian University, respectively.
"Those two universities are getting some great athletes," Head Coach Matthew McLaughlin said after the signing ceremony. "They work hard every single day, and I don't expect anything less from the best from them at the next level."
Elsa Reel: University of New Mexico
Reel did what few Central Bobcats or Lady Cats ever do on Wednesday afternoon. Sign with a Division I university. This, in itself, is an accomplishment and joins an incredible list of achievements as a swimmer at San Angelo Central. The 2x All-American wrapped up her high school swimming career last week with a pair of impressive top-five finishes Saturday at the UIL Swimming & Diving Class 6A State Meet at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
Reel took fourth place in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2 minutes, 2.32 seconds. She then followed that up with another fourth-place showing in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.5, which set a new school record.
Adding to that, she is also a 2x Academic All-State recipient, 2x First Team All-State, 3x All-State Honorable Mention, 7x State Qualifier, 7x First Team All-Region, 15x District Champion, 16x First Team All-District and 4x to the District Team.
She will go down as one of the most successful swimmers in San Angelo Central's history and should excel at the next level.
Peyton Brandt: Oklahoma Christian University
Another Top 10 swimmer in Central Swimming history, Brandt made another huge step in her athletic career by signing with Division II Oklahoma Christian. The young lady finishes her high school career as an Academic All-American, 2x Academic All-State, and a State Qualifier. She also claimed First Team All-Region three times and one All-Region Honorable Mention. She is a 5x Region Finalist, 4x District Champion and 7x First Team All-District. Finally, she is one of the current school record holders for the 400 Free Relay.
Brandt still has a lot to offer at the Division II level and should surprise no one when she succeeds and excels at the next level.
