Angelo State Rambelles Open LSC Tournament Against UT Tyler
SAN ANGELO, TX — Sixth-seeded Angelo State will open the Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball Championship with a quarterfinal matchup against third-seeded UT Tyler on Friday at Comerica Center in Frisco.
Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
The Rambelles enter the tournament after their 10-game winning streak was snapped last week with road losses to West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico. Angelo State was within reach late against West Texas A&M but failed to make a field goal over the final 6:28 of the game.
UT Tyler preview
UT Tyler enters the tournament with a 20-9 overall record and a 16-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots closed the regular season with home victories over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International.
The teams last met Jan. 2, 2025, in San Angelo, where UT Tyler earned a 45-42 victory. Angelo State committed 28 turnovers and shot 31.1% from the field in that matchup but held the Patriots to 35.2% shooting while forcing 24 turnovers.
UT Tyler averages 60.2 points per game while shooting 38.6% from the field, 28.8% from 3-point range and 67% from the free-throw line. Leila Davis leads the Patriots with 12.3 points per game.
Defensively, UT Tyler allows just under 52 points per game and holds opponents to 36.6% shooting. Mileina Sablinskaite leads the team with 5.6 rebounds per game, followed closely by Davis at 5.5.
Rambelles Notes
Majik Esquivel leads Angelo State in scoring at 17.2 points per game, ranking second in the Lone Star Conference.
Esquivel, along with Taylor Grona, Landry Morrow and Tristin Keller, has helped anchor the Rambelles’ defense. The four players have combined for 154 steals this season.
Angelo State ranks among the conference leaders in several defensive and rebounding categories, including blocked shots per game (4.3), defensive field-goal percentage (35.8%), offensive rebounding average (13.7) and total rebounds per game (38.8).
Senior center Keniah Williams has recorded three double-doubles this season, including performances against Western Colorado, Pittsburg State and Emporia State. She now has 16 double-doubles in her collegiate career.
