Angelo State Head Coach Girsch on the State of the Rams

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams dropped a close contest to rival West Texas A&M last Saturday, 27-19, and are off to a disappointing start in 2026 at 0-3.

What happened? Penalties and second-half turnovers let the Buffs take the lead, then shut down the Rams' offense in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Head coach Jeff Girsch discussed the loss at his weekly press conference at the Junell Center on Monday. Watch that press conference above.

One bright spot in the loss was the Rams' rushing attack. Angelo State racked up 295 yards against WTAMU, with junior Cameron Dischler leading the charge. Dischler finished the game on Saturday night with 120 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.

Despite improvement across the board from Week 1, the Rams still have not found a way to finish games in the second half. ASU's schedule is not doing the Rams any favors either, as they travel to Oregon next Saturday to play No. 17 Western Oregon.

Kickoff for Saturday's matchup is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
