PREVIEW: Lake View Chiefs Square Off With Rival Big Spring

SAN ANGELO, TX — Fresh off a homecoming victory over Pecos last Friday, the Lake View Chiefs look to keep their winning ways on the road this week as they travel to Big Spring to take on the Steers.

Last week, Lake View jumped out to a 35-10 halftime lead before holding off a surge from Pecos in the second half to claim a 35-24 victory. Quarterback Chriz Alvizo had another dominant showing, throwing for 320 yards and four touchdowns as the Chiefs controlled much of the game. Pecos slowed Lake View in the final two quarters, but it was already too late to mount a serious comeback.

"I think we bounced back from a big loss at Lubbock High," head coach Hector Guevara said at his weekly press conference on Tuesday. "They played together, executed some drives, sustained those drives, and scored some points at the end. Defense rallied to the ball, made plays, and tackled well."

The Chiefs now look to continue that momentum on the road at Big Spring.

Week 5: Lake View @ Big Spring

The Chiefs (3-1) find themselves in a good spot headed into Week 5. Big Spring (0-4) has struggled to find its footing in 2026, still winless through four games. Last season, Lake View dominated this matchup and walked away with a 76-49 victory. 

Despite the losses, the Steers prove week in and week out that they are a tough team to beat, scoring at least 21 points in every matchup this season. Big Spring's closest matchups came in the first two weeks when the Steers fell to El Paso Ysleta 30-22 and Andrews 42-34. They lost by 21 points to Sweetwater (42-21) and Estacado (45-24).

"It will be a great game," Guevara continued. "I think their record doesn't speak to how good they are. They've played some tough opponents and played them well. It's going to be a tough game. We will have our hands full."

Lake View must take this matchup seriously or be upset on the road. Big Spring has a talented offense that can score when working properly. Junior quarterback Javon Jackson is a dual-threat quarterback who has amassed 669 yards through the air and added another 121 on the ground. Jr. Colin Mikels has emerged as a key focus of the offense, rushing for 307 yards. If Lake View can shut those two down, the Chiefs should walk away 4-1.
