Central Bobcats' Mark Smith Speaks Ahead of District Opener

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Central Bobcats open up District 2-6A play this weekend when the Midland Lee Rebels come to San Angelo Stadium on Friday.

The Bobcats survived an ugly slugfest on the road in Midland last weekend, beating Midland Greenwood 28-21 in a game in which Central blocked a field goal and returned it for the go-ahead touchdown in the 4th quarter to secure a win.

Now, Central sets its sights on the Midland Lee Rebels.

Bobcats' head coach Mark Smith talked about the win over Greenwood before previewing the district opener against Midland Lee. Watch that press conference above.

Central Bobcats (4-2) vs. Midland Lee Rebels (4-3)

  • When: Friday, Oct. 16
  • Where: San Angelo Stadium
  • Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Central arrives at the start of district play one week later than the rest of the teams in the Little Southwest Conference. With Frenship dropping to 5A-Division I this season, District 2-6A now only has five members. Because of this, Central finds itself a week late to the party, but ready all the same.

Last week, the Midland Lee Rebels took on Odessa Permian and ran into a brick wall. Permian handled the Rebels in Midland, beating Lee 42-10. Sitting at 0-1 in district play, expect Lee to come ready to play.
