Wall Hawks Soar Over Mason Punchers with Statement Win

WALL, TX— An hour lightning delay could not stop the Wall Hawks as they took on the Mason Punchers to kick off the 2025 high school football season on Aug. 29, 2025.

According to Merriam-Webster, when revenge is described as a verb, it means “to avenge (oneself or another) by retaliating in kind or degree. Revenge, when used as a noun can be “a desire for vengeance or retribution, an act or instance in order to get even, and/or an opportunity for getting satisfaction”.

Now, the Hawks are on their “2025 Revenge Tour."

Last December, the Hawks got the monkey off their backs as they beat the Canadian Wildcats. Actually, Wall didn’t just beat the Canadian… they forced them to submit by crushing them, 49-3.

They had a much bigger test on December 13, 2024. A date that is seared into the memory of the Wall Hawks and their fans.

42-32.

The score that secured the Gunter Tigers making the trip to AT&T Stadium.

That puts us at now and the Hawks were trying to start their revenge tour so they can make hotel accommodations around the Metroplex.

Just as both teams were preparing to take the field, a lightning strike caused a delay in the action. As the storm swelled in the distance, players and fans were just hoping to get the season started off the right way. Rain could be felt falling on the field, but the clouds parted, and the tunnels went up.

The Hawks won the coin toss and on the very first play of the game, a pack of Punchers broke through the offensive line for a sack. A saving grace in the form of yellow laundry landed on the field as a personal foul was called on Mason.

With 8:23 left in the first quarter, senior quarterback Landon York found Haygen Barbee for a quick, short touchdown. York hit Barbee on a two-point conversion to give the Hawks an 8-0 lead.

Mason wouldn’t have the ball very long before it ended up in the Hawk’s hands where York would give the ball to Jager Thompson who dashed his way down to the 1-yard line. Near the goal line, the Hawks let Thompson finish off the drive as he dove in for the score, giving them a 14-0 lead after a missed extra point.

The Punchers couldn’t get anything done offensively again and the red-hot Hawks took possession yet again. With 2:09 left in the opening quarter, York found senior Reid Robertson along the Hawk’s sideline for a 47-yard touchdown and putting the game further out of reach at 21-0.

Well into the second quarter and the ball in Wall’s possession, running back Brady Neal broke through the line and after a little jump cut, found the end zone to extend the Hawks' lead to 28-0 with 4:13 left in the half.

At 2:22 in the second quarter, the Hawks forced a Puncher punt from the 20, which Kellen Oliver returned to the 10. From there, York found Bryson McFarden for a 10-yard touchdown. The Wall Hawks went into halftime up 35-0 over their longtime rival.

Into the second half, many Wall backups got some playing time and eventually, earning the victory, 48-7. There are not many teams that can say they put 48 points on Mason.

Up next, the Hawks travel to Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood to take on the Brownwood Lions at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
