Clyde ISD Cancels Classes and City Is Put on Boil Water Notice After Water Main Break

CLYDE, TX -- A water main break in the city of Clyde is causing problems for the residents of the town.

The water main at FM 18 and Sandy Lane broke over night and drained water tanks soon after, according to city officials.  KTXS reported Monday morning that most of the city is without water and crews are working to fix the break.

Clyde ISD was initially on a two hour delay because of the break but quickly canceled classes for the day with the following Facebook post, "UPDATE: The CIty of Clyde continues to work on restoring water to the city.  It appears they have run into some issues that are delaying their progress.  At this time they are unable to tell us with certainty when we will have water.  As a result, Clyde ISD will cancel school today."

KTXS also reported that a gas main was broken in the ditch where workers were trying to repair the water main break.  Atmos is trying shut off the gas in order to continue working.

There is no time estimate on when it will be fixed.

The City of Clyde also posted the following to Facebook, "Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water System.

Due to a water main break and loss of line pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Clyde PWS ID 0300002 public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g. washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).  You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Clyde City Hall at 325-893-4234 or Chad at the water treatment plant at 325-280-8885.  The City of Clyde will issue a notice when the leak is fixed and all bacteriological water tests have passed."
