Gov. Abbott Proclaims 'Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week'

AUSTIN, TX – On July 6, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott proclaimed the week of July 19 through July 25 as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week.

“A vital part of building and maintaining strong communities in this great state is ensuring the safety and well-being of Texans. High-quality community supervision and corrections programs for those who commit offenses do much to enhance public safety, and pretrial, probation, and parole officers play essential roles in safeguarding the public and preventing recidivism,” said Abbott in the proclamation.

“These skilled professionals help protect our communities by assessing risk, designing supervision plans, serving as sources of accountability, and promoting positive change among offenders who have been released into communities.”

“An important marker for the effectiveness of our criminal justice system is our recidivism rate, and these men and women working in community supervision and corrections are on the front lines of reducing re-offense rates. Their work to help offenders find new paths forward as productive citizens who contribute to the betterment of the Lone Star is vital to breaking the cycle of crime.”

“A week in July is dedicated to recognizing the indispensable role pretrial, probation, and parole officers play in keeping Texans safe and secure and in reducing recidivism. At this time, I encourage all Texans to extend appreciation to these officers. Their courage and commitment help make a better and brighter future for Texas.”
